How to Get Listed In Google Local
Aug 9th
Google Local can help you and your business become well known in your local area. All you need to do is sign in, fill out the forms regarding your location, website and domain of expertise, and watch as you get more and more reviews. How does this Google Local tool work and how can you qualify yourself for higher rankings?
It is necessary for your website to contain the location names on the pages, as this is a location-based listing. If other sites link to your website based on the location and business type, then that’s another reason for you to get better rankings. Then there are the reviews that you get and the quality score, which can grow in time and give you recognition. And of course, the distance between you and the searcher is a major factor contributing to your local success.
After listing yourself, you can view your local position and see who else is in the neighborhood, by accessing Google Maps. Speaking of which, how do you get into Google Local?
1.Copy and paste in the browser’s address toolbar this link and go to it: http://www.google.com/local/add/businessCenter
2.Log in to your Google account, then on the Local Business Center page click on the Add new business button.
3.Next you must fill out the company details. When you enter your zip code, you will appear as a pink bubble on the map.
4.Add business categories to the listing. Add all that apply.
5.Add your opening hours.
6.Check the payment methods you accept, upload videos and photos. You should add your logo.
7.Now you must confirm the listing. Select the method by which you will receive a PIN code, which you will enter when asked. After entering the PIN it takes 3-6 weeks for you to appear on the map.
After you’ve finished creating your account and listing your website, you can check with Google Maps or perform a direct Google search including the address of your physical location in the keywords. You will see a screenshot of the map in your area at the top of the results, along with a legend of companies nearby.
There you can hover with your mouse over your place and view the details that you registered. Links are available to your site, and a special field for reviews. People can review your activity and give quality scores .
If you have a website, go now to Google Places (Google Local) and list your site.
4 Quick Tips Before Starting Your First Site
Jun 4th
If you have been thinking about making a website yourself and have never made a site before, then there are some basic concepts you’ll want to know. It’s not that hard to make a basic website and here’s are four handy tips.
The first thing is to select a good web host, where the services are done for you choose one that uses Cpanel with Fantastico, this way if you know nothing about how to put a blog, or site up you can go to Fantastico choose the type of site you want WordPress, Joomla! or any other and it will automatically load it for you ( great no tech knowlege required). I’ve tried many web hosting companies and I feel that Hostgator has given me the best service, I have a lot of websites hosts with them and it’s been simple to do, however choose who you feel would best suit your needs.
The second tip is about creating a domain name. It has become more challenging to find a domain name on the first attempt. So you might need to try various combinations by trying to put a dash or try a different extension and alternatively you may wish to add the area your in bakercamden.com to make it easier ( A word of caution many people forget to put hash signs into urls so you really might need to think about a combination without it). You might want to try using prefixes and suffixes with the domain name you want, any good hosting company will have a domain search facility which will then give you options if the domain name you want is already gone.
Now you have a domain host, a domain name and now you need to add pages to it, if you use WordPress or Joomla then it is simple to do and there are many online tutorials to help. Recently it has become very easy to get up and running within a day, you can sign in online to both Joomla! and WordPress and upload stuff, and even email content. Both have free plugins and themes to select from so you can make a web page in no time.
The suggestions above are open source programs which are free and as I said earlier if you have a Cpanel with Fantastico from your hosting company are very quick and easy to get installed (it is click of a button) You can also purchase software if you wish but why when there are so many good ones for free, it is much better to pay for expertise to help get the right look and feel on your pages than for software to create them.
Lastly, in making your first site, don’t get too complex, this is where many beginners fall down. Start off with a basic design and go from there. Once your skill level grows then you can begin getting more technical with the design of the site. Hope this helps the newbies.
